John Worthington, head of events, O2
Company type: brand
Position: 14
Previous position: NEW
Background
A former RAF engineer, Worthington’s military training has stood him in good stead in the event industry, with a flair for leadership and decision making. In 1995 he became an events manager at Cellnet, later to become BT Cellnet, before his appointment as head of events at O2 in 2002.
Achievements in 2013
Among the 150 events that Worthington organised in 2013 was the O2 Campus Party, held for the first time in London. Parent company Telefónica wanted a spectacular tech event, and more than 10,000 attendees descended on The O2 each day. Meanwhile, the O2 Retail Expo was an Event Awards finalist for Creative Event of the Year.
Testimonial
"John is a real asset, not only to the events team within Telefónica, but to the whole business. His dedication to the events he manages is unfailing, acting as a brand ambassador for Telefónica to tens of thousands of O2 customers throughout the country. The success of Campus Party this year reflects the depth of talent within the business,
and I’d like to thank John for his contribution and efforts to create a vibrant showcase to bring that to life so effectively. It’s always a pleasure working with John, knowing you are with the ‘A Team’."
