Evening Standard boosts digital focus

The Evening Standard has moved to expand its digital advertising offering by launching an educational website and promoting its classified director, Mike Rowley, to the new role of classified and digital advertising director.

As part of its increased focus on digital, the Standard has launched educateLondon.co.uk, a course listings guide. Rowley's role will include selling advertising on the site and other online offerings linked to the group's newspaper brands.

He was behind last October's launch of the RecruitLondon job package, which allows advertisers to buy the Evening Standard, Metro London and online at one price through one point of contact.

In his new role, he will expand the cross-selling advertising package to include jobs, property, travel, education, motors, business-to-consumer and consumer-to-consumer.

Rowley said that there would be further digital developments for the newspaper in the coming months, including a review of its arts and entertainment offering, with a view to integrating its off and online brands.
