The pan-European broadcaster said that Nicholson would be tasked with initiating and cementing partnerships with UK advertisers and agencies and driving its commercial revenues from a London office, where he will report to Olivier de Montchenu, managing director of EuroNews sales.
Nicholson was at The International Herald Tribune for 10 years, where he worked in the newspaper's London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong offices. He also previously worked for Initiative Media in Paris.
De Montchenu said: "The role requires a special person able to fulfil the day-to-day role of a busy sales office, but also to be proactive in sourcing new revenue streams.
"Will has just the right credentials we were looking for and we believe that with this wealth of international sales experience, he will be an instrumental force in EuroNews' success."
Nicholson said: "I felt the time was right for a new direction and a fresh challenge. EuroNews' appeal worldwide and multilingual aspect makes it a unique proposition and I very much look forward to leading the UK sales team into the New Year."
The broadcaster, which is available in seven languages, is one of Europe's largest news channels in terms of weekly audience reach, according to European Media & Marketing Survey, with a 4.9% share of the market, just behind CNN International on 5.2%.
