John Smith's, Newcastle Brown, and Becks are three of the UK's most
ethical beer brands according to a new report by The Ethical Consumer
Research Association (Ecra).
The Good Shopping Guide claims to be the first complete guide to ethical
shopping and scores brands according to their impact on the environment,
human rights and animal welfare. The guide is due be published by Ecra
and media incubator 86 Developments in May.
In beer, best scores go to John Smith's, Newcastle Brown, Theakston,
Holsten Pils, Becks and McEwan's, while worst ratings go to Bass Ale,
Caffrey's, Worthington, Guinness, Kilkenny, Carling, Kronenbourg,
Tennent's, Budweiser and Miller Pilsner.
In mortgages, best brands are Ecology BS, Co-op Bank, Abbey National,
Alliance & Leicester, and Ethical Mortgage Service. Lowest ratings go to
Woolwich, Barclays, NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland.
Brands recommended in the guide can use its logo on their products and
in their marketing.
