Initiative looked at viewing behaviour of Democrat voters and those who have not yet decided to determine which types of programming are best for reaching voters in what is appearing to be a tight US election with George W Bush and John Kerry running neck-and-neck.
The study determined that undecided voters have a tendency to watch entertainment shows such as 'My Wife & Kids', a comedy about a man with traditional values struggling to cope with the modern world, and forensic police show 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' and were also strongly drawn to animation, reality TV and talk show progamming.
Decided voters, on the other hand, were much more likely to be watching TV news than undecided voters.
The study also looked at show preference by genre. 'Will & Grace' was the most poular comedy show for Democrats whereas 'My Wife & Kids' topped the bill for undecided voters.
A recent study from Nielsen Monitor Plus and The University of Wisconsin found that Republican President Bush and his Democrat rival Kerry, have so far spent more money on TV advertising than any other presidential candidates in history, yet nearly 60% of Americans live in areas where no TV ads have been broadcast.
So far, spend is said to currently stand at around £100m. Other key findings from the study were that Democrats had outspent Republicans almost across the board.
