Empire launches iPad edition in U.S.

Empire, the Bauer Media-owned film magazine, is entering the US market with the launch of an iPad edition of the title, to tap into the 500,000 monthly unique users that visit the Empire website in the US.

The interactive iPad edition launches today (31 May) and, like the UK edition which launched in 2010, will be interactive, featuring embedded film trailers and behind-the-scene features.

Editorial will be tailored to the US market with localised content. There will also be varying commercial opportunities for advertisers.

Bauer Media hopes the launch will help it tap into the growing number of iPad enthusiasts in the US, and build on the 500,000 monthly unique users that Empire says already visit the brand online in the country.

The July issue of the title will launch on the Apple Newstand, featuring an exclusive front cover from director Christopher Nolan's forthcoming movie, 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

The new app will be supported with a targeted marketing campaign, with a focus on digital activity.

Nolan said that Empire magazine had always set an "extremely high standard" in giving moviegoers an in-depth look behind the scenes of their favourite films.

Empire is now published in a number of countries, including Australia and Italy.

In the UK, Empire is the market-leading dedicated film title.

According to ABC-audited figures, it registered a circulation of 167,056 in the six months to December 2011, compared to second-placed Total Film, published by Future, which recorded a circulation of 70,908.
