The record company is in discussions with Microsoft ahead of Zune's launch, but some acts have already been signed up to the service. They include: 30 Seconds To Mars, the alternative rock band of which actor Jared Leto is a member; electro-pop band Hot Chip; and Brazilian electro-samba outfit Cansei de Ser Sexy.
At the moment, the deal will mean the bands' videos will be pre-loaded on the music player. However, there could be further branding deals along the lines of U2's deal with Apple, which has made a special edition of its iPod for fans of the Irish band, complete with a pre-loaded copy of the group's 'Vertigo' album.
Zune is Microsoft's answer to the ubiquitous iPod. It is designed with a bigger screen, to make it better for watching videos. It will also have Wi-Fi capabilities to allow users to download media directly, without connecting to a computer.
The player is likely to be introduced in time for Christmas, with new models expected in 2007.
