The move completes the publisher's extended and painful reorganisation, which has resulted in 175 job losses (Media Week, 3-10 April, page 5). The deputy managing directors will work with the 11 brand directors named last week, following the scrapping of publisher, ad director and ad manager roles.
Sophie Wybrew-Bond, publishing director of women's weeklies division Emap Entertainment, is now deputy managing director, while Stuart Williams, publishing director of Q, Mojo and Kerrang!, is now deputy managing director of Emap Metro-Music. Sam Fitzgibbon takes up the same role in Emap Esprit, which includes Grazia, Yours and Top Santé. Managing directors of each division remain the same.
Rimi Atwal, FHM business director, will continue to work with Rob Munro-Hall, Emap's managing director of men's lifestyle. Abby Carvosso, publisher of Grazia, stays on the fashion weekly in the new role of general manager, though head of sales Tammy Wilson has left.
In addition to several departures revealed last week, including Dan Flower, publisher of Arena and Zoo and Mandy Key, publisher of More, Lucy Norris, men's fashion account manager, and New Woman publisher Lisa Herron have also taken redundancy. The dissolution of Emap's entertainment ad team has seen the departure of ad managers Gavin Hoare and Tayba Hussain. Rob O'Brien, who headed the team, moves to Emap's creative solutions division, Emap2, as a strategy director.
Emap's specialist arm has been divided into eight businesses in place of Active and Automotive. Each managing director will be responsible for business across magazines, websites, e-commerce, events, services and syndication.
Among these are Ed Beale, former managing director of Emap Active, who becomes managing director of sports with a remit that includes Today's Golfer, Golf World and Match!; Will Hattam, managing director of bikes, including MCN; and Ed Kenyon, acting managing director of consumer car business, including Max Power and Car.
They will report to Ian Templeton, group managing director of Peterborough, with commercial directors reporting to them. Emap last week also appointed Jonathan Turpin as digital director of radio, one of three new digital roles.
