Q Sounds, which comes its own compilation CD, has been developed exclusively for Virgin Megastores by Emap Performace Rock Platform. It launched yesterday and will be on sale at £3.99 or available free with selected CDs.
The compilation CD carries 18 tracks from the cream of current album releases, while the magazine includes reviews, interviews and money-off vouchers.
The new commercial brand development unit for the publisher's rock music division will work on developing brand extensions to increase revenues across Q, Mojo and Kerrang!.
The team is to be headed up by Maddy Ballantyne, former publishing director of Q, Mojo and Kerrang!.
Ballantyne said: "We are offering credible and effective opportunities to harness the value in our brands for mutual advantage. Q Sounds is a fantastic example of how we are in the business of joint ventures as opposed to straight media sales. Virgin Megastores and Q will benefit from the project."
The creation of the division follows a number of projects across the titles including the 'Mojo Presents', range of CDs with Sony Music Entertainment, and a series of highly acclaimed Special Edition magazines.
Dave Henderson, managing director of Emap's Rock Platform, said: "We've had fantastic success with one-off special projects. With so many companies now recognising the importance of music in the lives of their consumers, Maddy is actively looking for partners to get involved with some great new projects."
