Emap Elan Network is creating a new division to house the Wagadon
titles that it acquired last year in a bid to improve its digital and
global offerings.
The division, Emap Elan East, will publish The Face, Arena and Arena
Homme Plus. It will be run by David Davies, who becomes managing
director.
Davies was previously editorial director of Heat and was also overseeing
special projects for Emap.
Emap Elan Network will support the division with financial and marketing
support, but the idea is to devolve responsibility to a separate team
who will look at everything from brand extensions, including websites,
to new launches.Three new ideas are in development with a magazine
launch expected in the next few months.
’Emap’s creation of community networks in November sought to group our
businesses around markets with a mandate for media flexibility. The
creation of Emap Elan East will give a real, tangible identity and drive
forward this globally distinct and discreet collection of titles and
activities,’ Paul Keenan, chief executive of Elan Network, said.
He added: ’We are looking particularly at building a digital strategy
around the brands. The digital space is not being exploited and the
titles have not yet established websites, for example.’
Davies, who has also edited Q magazine, will work with the editorial
director, Ashley Heath, the publishing director, Phillip Bembridge, and
the editors, Johnny Davis and Greg Williams.
Emap Elan Network is one of Emap’s four key networks, the three others
being: Emap Performance Network, Emap Automotive Network, and Emap
Esprit Network.
