Knowles will join as associate editor while Michael Hogan, former editor of Sky and a freelance writer for Heat, Marie Claire, Word and FHM, becomes editor at large; and former Empire, Total Film and Smash Hits editor Emma Cochrane takes on the role of managing editor.
Merrill's move to Emap follows a successful stint at IPC Media on the weekly women's magazine Chat, during which he was credited with building the title to deliver double-digit growth. He joins Emap in January.
Jonathan Sellers, who has a long track record at Emap, including the launch of FHM, Heat and Closer, is the new project's creative director.
Matt Phare, former creative director across Emap Consumer Media's Youth Group, joins as art director following the re-design of More magazine. Former Heat production editor Colin Hubbuck will head up the production team.

Mark Dinning takes on the role of features editor, moving over from the same role at Empire.
Andrew Pettie has been lured from the Daily and Weekend Telegraph to become TV editor, and Matt Mason, who has worked on The Daily Mail, Match and Total Sport, joins as sport editor.
Dan Cotton takes on the role of business manager with a background spanning Motor Cycle News, men's gaming and retail, and The Boston Consulting Group.
