Emap has expanded its international web portfolio by taking stakes in a French and a US new media business.
The magazine group bought an 18% stake, worth $5.5 million, in US web business Alloutdoors.com, and a 13.5%, worth £560,000, in French firm Thematis.
Thematis, which is developing an entertainment focused TV listings site, called nuovo.com, gives Emap increased reach into the French entertainment market, where it already has a strong offline presence.
The US deal is geared towards helping develop e-commerce revenues for its US magazine titles, which include Guns & Ammo and Hunting. Emap will market magazine subscriptions across the Alloutdoors site, which has about 350,000 users. Emap has retained the option to buy a further 7% of Alloutdoors in the next six months.
