Blackglama is famous for its 'What becomes a legend most?' strapline, having signed up some of the world's most glamorous women to promote its black mink furs, including Elizabeth Taylor, Maria Callas, Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis. Singer Ray Charles also appeared in an ad for the company.
Robbie LeBlanc, a spokesman for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said: "Her wardrobe is now as dead as her film career. It's shocking that she's taking money to wear baby minks, who are skinned at six months old for Liz's luxuries."
Cindy Crawford was criticised in 2004 for agreeing to promote the company -- particularly in light of the fact that she had been one of the models appearing in the famous 'I'd rather go naked than wear fur' campaign in the 1990s.
A spokesman for Blackglama said at the time that Crawford had never agreed to appear in that campaign.
Earlier this month, Peta launched its own anti-fur campaign featuring the Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia. The ad says that wearing fur-trimmed clothing is no less cruel than wearing a fur coat, and features Imbruglia cuddling a rabbit with the line "Tell Him It's Just a Little Fur Trim".
