Electronic goods to carry 'digital switchover' logo

The government is to label millions of consumer electronics devices with a digital switchover logo to educate the British public prior to the analogue signal switch-off.

The decision comes amid increasing pressure on the government to raise awareness of the switch from analogue to digital broadcasting.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) confirmed that a brand identity for the switchover was in development as part of the government's work to make the transition to digital as smooth as possible.

The logo, designed by brand consultancy Lambie Nairn, is set to be revealed by the DCMS later this year.

A final date for the switchover has not been announced, although the government has confirmed it will take place between 2006 and 2010. Culture secretary Tessa Jowell has been under pressure from Ofcom to provide a more specific time.

Lambie Nairn was unavailable for comment as Marketing went to press.
