The initiative follows on from the success of 2015’s inaugural online web series, where EE collaborated with YouTube’s top gaming and football vloggers to create a first-of-its-kind YouTube series, The Wembley Cup.
For this year, EE will document the journey of YouTube phenomenon Spencer Owen (Spencer FC) and fellow YouTuber Joe Weller through eight online episodes, as they battle it out through a series of challenges to each build a team strong enough to take to a live match final at Wembley Stadium.
In every episode, fans will be able to vote on which YouTubers join each team’s starting 11 for the star-studded live final. Fans will be able to call the shots by making key decisions via Twitter polls that will affect the game even further. There will also be some surprises for fans along the way.
Last year's live final was broadcast to an empty stadium, but this year EE is encouraging fans to buy tickets to the event, with the ambition to fill the first tier of the stadium with 30,000 people.
Agency HSE Cake is responsible for delivering the event and is working with EE's other agencies on the delivery of the digital element, alongside a range of new partners including EA SPORTS, Microsoft, the Bobby Moore Foundation and the team at Wembley. The first episode of The EE Wembley Cup 2016 has gone live on Spencer FC's YouTube channel.
