Economist picks ex-Amex marketer for top branding role

The Economist magazine has appointed its first ever global marketing director to oversee all aspects of promoting the weekly business title and its various brand extensions.

A career marketer, Susan Clark has held various senior roles at The Phineus Company and American Express.

Clark joins the company from Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, where she was senior vice president for marketing and sales.

The new position will have responsibility for The Economist, Economist.com, Intelligent Life, The World In, overall company branding and public relations.

Publisher Andrew Rashbass said: 鈥淢s Clark comes to The Economist with a superb set of marketing, advertising and sales credentials, and will become a key member of the senior team who will implement our aggressive growth strategy.

鈥淗aving achieved one million in circulation last year, we have an excellent foundation on which to build for the future.鈥

Clark added: 鈥淚've always admired The Economist brand and look forward to helping to build awareness and readership of the publication around the world.

鈥淯ltimately, our goal is to make it as well known and well loved outside of the UK as it is in the UK.鈥
