Ebookers names UK chief to work across portfolio

Ebookers has chosen Colin Whaley as its first UK marketing director, with responsibility for the ebookers, Travelbag and Bridge the World brands.

The pan-European online leisure company, which bought UK firms Bridge the World and Travelbag in January 2003, plans to market all its brands through a single department.

Whaley, marketing director of Travelbag since 2002, takes on the company's top marketing post and will report to ebookers UK group managing director Peter Liney.

Three senior managers will report to Whaley: Jo Williams, head of advertising and PR; head of direct Franc Zvonar; and head of e-commerce marketing Basil Hyman.

Whaley said the brands in the portfolio were aimed at different audience profiles, but hinted at future consolidation. "We will continue to market all three in the UK as long as they add value to the company and customers," he said.

The consolidation will help ebookers match the marketing might of US online giants Expedia and Travelocity.

Ebookers uses Team Saatchi for creative advertising, with media through Conrad Advertising.
