The series follows the success of Airline, the ITV1 show that documents the day-to-day operations of the easyJet airline, and is seen as key to easyCruise's launch marketing strategy. EasyGroup initiated the project and has agreed a contract with TwoFour Productions for nine one-hour programmes to air in primetime next summer. EasyGroup said it had not paid any money to either TwoFour or Sky One.
The series will feature easyGroup founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou and other executives as they develop the company, ending with the experiences of passengers on the first cruises.
EasyGroup director of corporate affairs James Rothnie said he was unconcerned that the series might reveal problems. Despite scenes featuring irate customers in Airline, the series built easyJet into a highly recognisable brand with minimal marketing spend.
'EasyCruise aims to take the formality out of cruises,' he added. 'A warts-and-all TV series is a good way to do that.'
