'EastEnders' beats England kick-off

BBC One's long-running soap 'EastEnders' beat the start of England's European Championship qualifying game against Montenegro last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

‘EastEnders’ had an average audience of 9.2 million between 7.30pm and 8pm on BBC One, a 40.3% share of the TV-watching audience and was the most-watched programme at that time.

The England v Montenegro game kicked off at 7.45pm on ITV1 and was the most-watched programme from 8pm until 10pm, peaking with 7.9 million viewers across ITV1 and ITV1 HD in the last five minutes of the match.

Over the course of the programme, an average of 6.13 million watched the footage of the goalless draw with Montenegro (population 672,180, according to the CIA) between 7.30pm and 10.15pm, 25.7% of the TV-watching audience.

Long-running hospital drama ‘Holby City’ on BBC One was the second most-watched programme during the 9pm to 10pm slot, with an average audience of 5.55 million, a 22.7% share of the available audience.

‘Seven Days’ had an audience of 576,500 on Channel 4 between 10pm and 10.30pm, a 3.4% share of the TV-watching audience. An additional 89,2000 watched the show on Channel 4+1.
