Tens of thousands of gay, lesbian and transgender people will take to the streets in a ten-day celebration of arts and culture, culminating in the Big Weekend, a three-day event in the city's gay village.

The event, which will feature 90 floats, is said to be the second-largest ticketed event in the UK, after Edinburgh's Hogmanay.

The city's Canal Street area will be closed to turn the space into ‘a walled environment'.

"It's a big challenge to close off a section of a major European city every year," said Ear to the Ground production director Jon Drape. "And satisfying both party-goers and the rest of the city itself creates unique issues that must be addressed."
