Dustin Hoffman reprises Graduate role for Audi A6 spot

LONDON - Dustin Hoffman is reprising his role as Benjamin in 'The Graduate' for only the second television commercial he has made during his long career in an ad promoting the Audi A6.

Dustin Hoffman reprises Graduate role for Audi A6 spot

In the spot, called "Just like your mother" and created by Saatchi & Saatchi Frankfurt, Hoffman pays homage to the final scenes of his 1967 hit film 'The Graduate' where he interrupts a wedding to steal the bride away but with a twist.

This time, instead of carrying off the bride-to-be for himself, it turns out that it is his daughter that he is rescuing from marrying the wrong man. The pair then drive off in the new Audi A6.

The ad was shot by Michael Bay, who has directed the films 'Armageddon', 'The Rock' and 'Pearl Harbor'. It used a crew of more than 100, shooting for three days at original locations of 'The Graduate' between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. It even used the original church, located in a suburb of Los Angeles.

The ad uses The Lemonheads version of 'Mrs Robinson', a cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic that was written for 'The Graduate'. The copywriter on the ad was Eva Kinkel-Clever and art direction was by Kirsten Hohls. The creative director over seeing the work was Harald Wittig, and the account director was Anne Ziegler. The TV producer was Micheel Nwaisser.

Commenting on his appearance Hoffman said: "I was delighted that this super script was filmed with such meticulous respect for the original and realised the full potential of the story. This project was really a lot of fun for me."

Like many Hollywood stars who make commercials, the ad is restricted for screening and will only be broadcast in certain markets in Western Europe. It can not be shown on the internet at all.

More recently Hoffman has appeared in films such as 'Runaway Jury' and 'Confidence' and later this year will appear in 'Meet the Fockers', the sequel to comedy hit 'Meet the Parents', which starred Ben Stiller and Robert de Niro.
