The new campaign breaks this evening. It was created by Lowe, which has handled the Tesco account for 14 years. In the 50-second spot, Dotty, played by Prunella Scales, seduces Sir Roger on a ski slope, speaking to him in a Russian accent and inviting him back to her chalet for a Christmas surprise.
Once there, the pair enjoy a lavish Christmas dinner, with Sir Roger offering up some choice cheesy lines, such as "you really do know how to satisfy a man". Just as they are about to kiss, the scene dissolves and is shown to have been a dream -- Dotty is really sitting in her living room after Christmas dinner, having fallen asleep watching television.
In a 20-second version of the ad, Dotty slaps Sir Roger.
Scales said: "I read the script and thought I am going to get kissed by Roger Moore! And then, like any actress's worst nightmare, I discovered it was only a dream."
The commercial was written by Jez Willy and art directed by Alan Davies at Lowe. It was shot by David Garfath through the Paul Weiland Film Company. Media planning and buying is handled by Initiative Media.
Simon Uwins, UK marketing director for Tesco, said: "Dotty and her family have been the face of Tesco for nearly a decade and are today more popular than ever.
"Our customers love the comedy behind the ads and we're confident Sir Roger Moore will raise a smile with viewers over Christmas."
