The complete Domesday Book Millennium Edition comprises a two-volume facsimile of Great Domesday, a two-volume modern English translation, a people and places index, and a matching box containing modern Ordnance Survey maps with overlaid Domesday sites.
The campaign, a collaboration between the Bertelsmann Direct Group-owned BCA and publisher Alecto Historical Editions, was sent out to 2m high-spending BCA members who were interested in historical publications.
The mailer began with a teaser campaign, including a photo of the book.
This was followed by telemarketing, which was carried out by a team of people with an interest in history.
As well as the 15 people who have said they want to buy the book, a further 100 say they may be interested in buying the book.
For those whose finances do not stretch to the 拢6,750 price tag, BCA is offering some exclusive additional publications, such as editions for individual counties, and a CD-rom.
Colin Jones, marketing director of BCA, said: "This is the highest value book that BCA has ever promoted and, despite the fact that it is a fantastic collectors' item, I wasn't sure that we would sell more than a handful of copies. We are therefore delighted with the results of our campaign, which show just how effective our targeted lists were."
