DoH unveils logo of healthy eating scheme 5 A Day

The Department of Health (DoH) revealed its 5 A Day logo on Tuesday, designed to promote the benefits of healthy eating to consumers - amid controversy over which brands would actually use it.

Supermarkets including Asda and Safeway have applied to use the logo, which was designed by Identica, as have food manufacturers including Birds Eye Wall's and Del Monte Fresh Produce.

However, Tesco and Sainsbury's have not yet signed up to the scheme. A Tesco spokesman said it was still in talks with the DoH about whether it would participate. Sainsbury's said it was preparing to launch its own five-a-day logo in May.

To raise awareness of the initiative, posters and postcards, including a five-day test for consumers, will be distributed across NHS offices and doctors' surgeries across England. There will also be PR support through Munro & Forster.
