DMGT completes sale of Aberdeen Journals to DC Thomson

LONDON - Daily Mail & General Trust's regional newspaper division Northcliffe Newspapers has completed the sale of Aberdeen Journals to DC Thomson & Company, reducing DMGT's net debt by 拢132m.

As previously reported on Brand Republic, DMGT has created a single newspaper division comprising Associated Newspapers and Northcliffe, and has appointed Kevin Beatty, managing director of Associated Newspapers and former managing director of Northcliffe, to oversee the operation.

Pensions' legislature requires Aberdeen Journals to pay approximately 拢27m into DMGT's retained pension schemes once Aberdeen Journals' employees are transferred into the new scheme.

Northcliffe is expected to make yearly savings in the region of 拢45m compared with the 拢20m forecast in June last year.

DMGT had originally abandoned plans to sell off Northcliffe after initial bids for the division were deemed to be insufficient.
