DMA North chair Smith quits Ebiquita

LONDON - Andy Smith, the recently appointed chairman of DMA in the North, has unexpectedly left Ebiquita, where he was director of strategic accounts and partnerships.

Smith has worked at the company, formerly Marketphone, since 1998 and he has worked in direct marketing since he left the army to work in direct telemarketing sales.

Ebiquita CEO Dr Neil Rotherham said: "We are extremely grateful to Andy for the contribution he has made to the business."

Smith was unavailable for comment as DM Bulletin went to press, and his reasons for leaving are not yet known. However, it is understood that the position he held has been axed and that he has no job to go to.

Andy Taylor, marketing director at Ebiquita, said: "[Smith's] role doesn't exist any more. I'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the business while we review our position."

Smith took up chairmanship of the DMA in the North in November, and he can remain in the role as long as he joins a DMA member company in the next six months.

DMA managing director James Kelly said: "Andy's doing a great job in relaunching DMA in the North. We're pleased its started with such a vibrant response from the industry in the region, and his personality reflects that."

Kelly added that he hopes Smith will continue at the DMA pending his appointment at another DMA member company.

In a separate announcement, the DMA in the North has appointed Ian Strover as regional manager. Strover joins from Halifax Building Society, where he was direct marketing manager.

At the DMA, he will be responsible for the promotion of the trade body in the region and for ensuring the DMA is meeting the needs of its 180 members.
