DMA launches senior management training programme

LONDON - The DMA is launching a management training programme for senior direct marketers in conjunction with Oxford Brookes University, in a move that could see it step on the toes of fellow direct marketing trade body the IDM.

The programme is called Mastering Management and aims to "fill a gap in the market for senior level training", according to a joint statement from Oxford Brookes and the DMA.

However, training for the industry has traditionally been provided by the IDM, and many will view this as tacit criticism that the Institute does not provide sufficient management training.

The DMA said it has launched the programme after its training and development committee, led by its chairman Peter Phillips, identified an "acute need in the marketplace for advice for senior direct marketers who are looking to grow their businesses or the role of the marketing department within the overall business".

The programme is being run by Juliet Williams, who sits on the board of Oxford Brookes University.

It will include an online portal with advice from experts; a 40-month mentoring programme, an introduction pack including information on business plans, cash flow and funding; a training weekend for senior staff; and support on a consultancy basis.
