DRAFT DATA RETENTION DIRECTIVE

The European Commission's response to terrorism threats includes a draft data retention directive as part of its anti-terrorism package. The proposal includes harmonised retention periods of one year for fixed and mobile telephone data, and six months for internet protocol-based communication data. Member States will be required to compensate the electronic communication service providers for additional costs incurred as a result of any retention obligation.

DRAFT GUIDANCE ISSUED BY OFT AND DTI

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Office of Fair Trading have teamed up for the first time to issue new draft guidance on the Distance Selling Regulations. The DMA is seeking the views of members on key elements of this guidance, which can be found on its web site - www.dma.org.uk.
