Discovery Networks Europe has appointed two regional sales
directors and is building a ten-strong international team in a bid to
net more pan-regional deals.
Monica Mather has been promoted from regional account director to
European regional sales director. Jon Wildman leaves Sky to join
Discovery as its head of UK regional sales.
Discovery is also constructing an international sales team from scratch.
It will be based in London.
The team will sell pan-regional deals to clients and agencies across
Europe, and also in Discovery’s Latin American and Asian distribution
markets.
Mather will co-ordinate the international deals, working closely with
Wildman, who will link the UK market to the company’s offerings to
European clients.
Wildman will also act as a bridge between the Discovery sales team and
Flextech sales, which sells the broadcaster’s UK advertising.
Discovery will continue to uphold its third-party contract with
Flextech, but will bring its European third-party contracts inhouse. Its
main European markets are the Netherlands, Eastern Europe and
Scandinavia.
Wildman quits Sky after five years as a sales account manager, working
across all Sky’s channels. He began his career ten years ago as a sales
assistant at Meridian.
Both regional sales directors will report to sales director Phil
Teeman.
Mather said: ’We have transformed Discovery from a low-profile brand
into one that is now well established with London agencies. Higher
revenues have enabled us to build the international team. It will give
London clients and agencies direct access to Europe.’
Discovery Networks broadcasts on the cable, satellite and digital
platforms.
Its channels are: the Discovery Channel Europe, Home and Leisure, Animal
Planet, Travel and Adventure, Civilisation, and the recently launched
Sci-Trek, Health, Kids and Wings.
