Digital UK plans Borders switch-off activity

LONDON - Digital UK, the body responsible for the switchover from analogue to digital TV, is to roll out a campaign ahead of the next phase of analogue switch-off in November.

Digital UK plans Borders switch-off activity

The nationwide TV, radio and press ads will highlight the cessation of analogue transmissions to 52,000 homes in the Scottish Borders from 6 November.

The ads, created by Abbot Mead Vickers BBDO, feature a number of beauty spots in Scotland. A guide to the switchover will also be sent to each of the affected homes.

In the campaign, launching on 11 August, robotic character 'Digit Al' explains the three main ways of going digital: converting an existing TV through a digital set-top box, opting for a digital service via satellite, or buying a TV that features a built-in digital tuner.

Digital UK began its seven-year, £200m programme in May 2006. The first analogue switch-off took place in Cumbria in October 2007.

The next region to be affected will be the North West of England, before Devon, Cornwall and Wales in 2009.
