Digital Media wins Business Channel

Digital Media Sales has won the contract to handle advertising sales for a new business channel launching on the Sky satellite platform next month.

The Business Channel will attempt to plug a gap between mainstream channels' business coverage and business news specialists such as Bloomberg and CNBC.

It is the brainchild of former BBC business production veteran Martin Everard, who claims too much business content is focused on the US and elsewhere in Europe, and not enough on the UK.

The channel is owned by his firm, London International Television Ltd. He has been raising funds in the City and buying up content from, among others, the BBC, Channel 4 and The Open University for a line-up which will include profiles of business leaders such as Rupert Murdoch and Richard Branson.

Everard said the appeal of shows such as The Apprentice and Dragon's Den had convinced him there was an appetite for mainstream business shows, adding: "We aim to fill a gap between the main terrestrial broadcasters and the business channels which festoon their content with ticker tape with the day's share price."
