Digit Al to promote end of analogue

Digital UK, the organisation set up to prepare for switch-off of the analogue TV signal, has launched its latest marketing blitz, with a campaign by the creators of the characters from Creature Comforts, Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.

Aardman Animations has been hired to work alongside agencies including Mediacom on the next £7.5m burst of the £200m marketing campaign. A new TV trail broke this week on BBC1 and BBC2.

Ads will also run on commercial TV, on both terrestrial and digital channels, starting next month and will centre on the "lovable" character, Digit Al. Latest figures show nearly a third of the UK shows little sign of making the jump to digital.

Ofcom revealed last week that digital penetration had reached 70.2% of households in the UK, but that the vast majority of new equipment was being bought by homes that have already gone digital.

Freeview was once again the main driver of digital uptake in the period to the end of June.
