But there were no such fears at TBWA\London. Aided by a cherry cocktail or two, staff were eager to show host Matthew "Shepherd-Smith" Kelly every aspect of their "talents" as part of the agency's Stars In Their Eyes event to raise cash for Breast Cancer Research.
First up was a smoke-fuelled rendition of the Spice Girls' Stop. Featuring a line-up of the managing director, Victoria Davies, as Sporty, the marketing director, Julie McKeen, as Ginger, and the PR manager, Avril Canavan, as Posh, the team danced, swivelled and swayed, often boosted by the cheers and wolfwhistles from the floor.
Shepherd-Smith was reported to be "blown away" by the performance. The Diary judges, however, had a few reservations. The confident choreography at the start fell to pieces midway through, exposing an awkward Milli Vanilli-esque refrain, where "da-da-da-da" had to be repeated until the track faded.
That said, the deserved winners of the "talent" show were the PAs, who outperformed the management with a rendition of The Supremes' You Can't Hurry Love, replete with some crisp choreography and some outstanding singing from Katie Lydon, PA to Stream.
Lydon, hmm? Diary did some probing and can now exclusively reveal that Katie is none other than the niece of one John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotton, the lead vocalist of punk herberts the Sex Pistols. Now we know where the real talent lies.
