DIARY: Henry proves pick of the punch

Sir Henry Cooper helped celebrate the first birthday of meetings and events venue The Earls Suite, at the Copthorne Hotel, Merry Hill in Dudley. And the event gives Diary the perfect opportunity to churn out its favourite boxing puns.

The occasion was marked with the launch of a meetings and events package. The venue hopes clients will find it a real knockout.

The suite, which holds 400 dining, has also spent pounds 250,000 on a 'state-of-the-art lighting system' meaning that the venue could be boxing clever for future events.

Despite the celebrations there were no reports that 'Our 'Enry' was at any time punch-drunk despite the reception area having its own private bar.

Future events include West Bromwich Albion's Centennial dinner and a banquet hosted by Conservative Party leader William Hague. At this point the 'comedy' stops. There's nothing funny about a man who gets all his jokes from Christmas crackers. Not that we would do anything like that.
