Diageo shifts GB duties in rejig of responsibilities

Diageo has stripped Andy Fennell, its marketing and innovation director for Great Britain and Europe, of his responsibilities for the domestic market.

These will be taken over by Philip Almond, European brand director for Smirnoff, who has been drafted in as marketing director for Great Britain. He will be responsible for agency management and category development across the company's premium drinks brands, including Guinness and Baileys.

Diageo claimed the change is intended to place greater focus on opportunities within the UK, while also allowing Fennell to concentrate on developing the European market.

Fennell was ranked number 38 in Marketing's Power 100 for his management of the company's responsible drinking campaigns in the UK (Marketing, 1 June).

The firm has also axed one of its two managing director roles. As a result, Jim Young, who had been UK joint managing director with responsibility for the on-trade, has left. Benet Slay, formerly joint managing director for the off-trade, has been handed sole responsibility.
