Information will be communicated to consumers through a variety of channels, including advertising, a global website, customer carelines and new labelling bearing nutritional and alcoholic information.
Diageo said that the initiative will provide consumers with easy-to-understand facts on nutrition, allergens and alcohol content. Nutritional information such as levels of protein, carbohydrates and fat will be clearly displayed, but will not imply health or dietary benefits.
The words "Drink Responsibly. Drinkaware.co.uk" will appear on labels and secondary packaging, building on Diageo's decision last year to include the Drinkaware in its advertising.
The new packaging will appear first on Guinness Draught cans from the end of this year.
On a broader scale, Diageo will roll out the policy globally, which will affect about 10,000 variations of its product packaging during the course of the five-year rollout.
Diageo's corporate relations director Tim Rycroft said: "We want consumers to continue to enjoy the quality of our brands as part of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
"We recognise the importance of enabling consumers to make informed choices about what they drink. As a responsible and responsive company, we have developed a policy which helps them to do this."
Diageo has long been an advocate of responsible drinking. It began promoting the Portman Group's drinkaware.co.uk website in its marketing from November last year.
