DHL has called a pan-European media review and invited the CIA and
Carat networks to pitch.
CIA is the incumbent on most of DHL's business in Europe, including the
UK. Carat holds the media account for Deutsche Post, which owns DHL in
Germany. In the UK, Carat's sister agency BBJ will pitch, as Carat
already handles the Royal Mail account.
DHL refused to put a figure on the media spend, saying budgets were also
under review.
The delivery company has not advertised on TV in the UK since early last
year. The ads by BMP DDB had the theme of 'Relax, trust DHL, we get it
there'.
The creative account, which was handed to the DDB network in early 1999,
is not under review, although consideration will be given to whether the
company should take a local or pan-European approach to the creative
work.
The review follows the appointment earlier this year of former
Parcelforce marketer Jon Wilkinson, to the position of commercial
director, DHL's most senior marketing position.
