The title had been expected to launch in May and the delay is thought to have been caused by mounting tension between Desmond's management team and Daily Star editor Peter Hill over the staffing of the Sunday tabloid.
It has been reported that Daily Star journalists were aggressively opposing plans for them to produce the Sunday paper on top of the weekday daily.
The Press Association was then sounded out about providing news and sport for the Sunday paper and helping produce it. However, it is thought that PA has its hands full, now it has taken on production of Sunday broadsheet The Business. It also works on a section of Hello!, the arch-rival to Desmond's own celebrity glossy OK!.
Desmond is understood to still be set on the idea of launching the Sunday paper, but he is now considering remodelling the business plan and reassessing the cost and implications of launching a new national newspaper in a highly competitive market.
