Dentsu sees sales fall again

Revenue for May was down by 7.6% on the same period last year, at Y105.03bn (拢570m). Dentsu said that a steep fall in advertising by financial firms and information communications companies hit television and newspaper advertising.

Newspaper ad revenues slumped by 25.2% to Y13.29bn, while TV ad revenues were down by 2.8% to Y59.96bn.

Dentsu says the outlook for the following year is for sales to fall. It is predicting group net profit of Y13.2bn on sales of Y1,740bn for the year ending March 2003. It is also predicting a one-off hit of Y15bn when it relocates its offices in November.

Shares in Dentsu closed down by 1.4% on Thursday, at Y685,000.
