Dennis' gambling division lays down its third of a kind

LONDON - Dennis has revealed its new poker title is to be called PokerPlayer and will launch on September 22, offering news, features, profiles and winning strategies, for an introductory price of £1.

The title joins the company's general gambling magazines, the newly launched Total Gambler and Dennis' original gambling title Inside Edge, which began life in early 2004.

Some copies from the 50,000 print run for the first issue will be sold with Dennis's men's magazine Maxim for £3.50, compared with Maxim's normal cover price of £3.30, only in branches of WH Smith.

PokerPlayer will be edited by Dave Woods, who has previously edited PC Zone, Computer Arts and PC Review. He said that the magazine would aim for all types of poker player.

"Poker is mainstream entertainment. The UK is ready for a dedicated poker title and PokerPlayer is going to be an essential read for any player at any level. What we're going to reflect is that, win or lose, poker is fun. Yes, we're going to make you a better player but we're also going to make you laugh," he said.

Publisher Richard Downey said that Dennis has assembled a team "with the perfect combination of magazine craft and love for the game of poker".

Regular contributors will include poker players Roy "The Boy" Brindley, Grub Smith and Phil Hellmuth.
