Brown, the founder of the lad magazine Loaded, quit last week, two months after selling his company, I Feel Good, to Maxim publisher Dennis.
Hodges, who was formerly executive editor of Maxim and Maxim Fashion, will work alongside Brown who, following his departure, takes on the role of consultant editorial director.
Also appointed to work on Jack as an editorial consultant is industry veteran Alan Lewis, who as a publisher at IPC helped launch Loaded with Brown, as well as music and film title Uncut. As a journalist, Lewis edited NME, Sounds and other magazines. He was awarded the British Society of Magazine Editors Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.
Jack is currently undergoing a revamp that will see the critically successful magazine redeveloped by Dennis in an effort to boost its sales, which are thought to be less than 50,000 copies a month. The title is due to report its first ABC circulation figure in August.
Few details of the revamp are available, although Dennis has confirmed that there will be a pagination increase to a minimum of 308 pages from the November issue.
Dennis also said that significant investment will be made in editorial, subscriptions marketing and retail promotion.
According to Hodges: "Jack has already established an award-winning pedigree, due to its talented and dedicated team. Jack has fantastic support from advertisers and fashion director William Gilchrist's content is second to none. I hope to build on that success by playing to Jack's strengths."
Hodges is a PPA Magazine Writer of the Year winner, and has also written for The Observer and The Sunday Times.
