Debenhams marketing chief exits after 32 years

Debenhams marketing chief Hugh Bradley is quitting the department store chain next month after 32 years, to take early retirement.

As communications director, Brady was in charge of all marketing, communications and visual implementation. One of his key achievements was the instigation of the retailer's involvement with the Nectar loyalty scheme.

Bradley will not be replaced. Head of marketing Alison Jones will now report to chief executive Rob Templeman, and will have responsibility for the relationship with ad agency WCRS.

Head of visual and creative Mark Woods and head of customer management Amanda Metcalfe will also both report to Templeman.

Bradley, 54, decided to take early retirement when Debenhams was bought out by the Baroness Retail consortium for £1.7bn last year.

Bradley joined Debenhams in 1972 as a graduate trainee. He spent 24 years in store operations, eventually becoming regional director for London.

In 1996 he was made visual communications director and in 1999 he oversaw the appointment of WCRS and the creation of Debenhams' first 'premium' brand advertising campaign.

The retailer subsequently won The Marketing Society's 2002 Brand Revitalisation of the Year award.
