De la Bedoyere lands senior Standard post

LONDON - A management reshuffle at Associated Newspapers has resulted in the promotion of The Mail on Sunday’s ad director Sally de la Bedoyere to managing director of the Evening Standard.

Evening Standard ad director Sue Dear will move over to The Mail on

Sunday to replace her.

De la Bedoyere has not yet decided who should fill the vacancy Dear

leaves at the Evening Standard.

She told Media Business: "I’m delighted with my new role but I’m just

assessing what we have here. I'm not making any decision about the

vacancy just yet."

In addition to de la Bedoyere’s promotion, Kevin Beattie, formerly

managing director of the Evening Standard and Metro, becomes chief

operating officer of Associated New Media. He is succeeding Martin

Dunne, who is setting up an internet company called Front of Mind, which

will be initially owned and funded by Associated’s parent, the Daily

Mail and General Trust.

The Metro managing director role is being filled by Mike Anderson who

was previously deputy managing director.

Beattie’s remit is to develop closer relationships with Associated’s

newspapers and develop websites linked to the titles. To support this,

Ted Verity is moving from the Daily Mail to become ANM’s editorial

director.

Beattie will also manage ANM’s existing websites such as UK Plus and

Owen Davies, who heads the new-media operation of regional newspaper group Northcliffe, will also oversee the Daily Mail Group’s web

strategy.

He will focus on developing third-party alliances and manage the group’s

web investment fund.

The chain of appointments was initiated by Dunne’s desire to be an

internet entrepreneur. The former editor of Today and the New York Post

is likely to be offered an equity stake in Front of Mind, which will

have eight staff.
