DDB's Paterson quits for BBH role

Ewan Paterson, the joint creative director of DDB, is leaving the agency to join Bartle Bogle Hegarty in a move that will see Jeremy Craigen take sole command of DDB's creative department.

Similarly, the joint planning director Lucy Jamieson will take over the planning department following the departure of her partner, Richard Butterworth.

Butterworth will pursue interests outside of the advertising industry. He has been at DDB for 12 years.

Paterson, who will join BBH as a creative director later this month, has worked at DDB since 1995. As the joint creative directors since May 2002, Paterson and Craigen have led their department to some notable awards victories, most recently the Press Grand Prix in Cannes for its "cops" ad for Volkswagen .

The departures follow the arrival of DDB's new chairman and chief executive, Paul Hammersley. He said: "Ewan has made a personal decision which I'm sure he will be happier for. And Richard has wanted to do other things for a while, so again it's a very personal decision to leave."

He added: "I am comfortable that Jeremy and Lucy can do their jobs alone and I am actually a lot more comfortable with singular heads of department."

Paterson said: "I never wanted to be a career executive creative director and always wanted to go back to making ads. There isn't an agency I'd rather take this step back at than BBH."

John O'Keeffe, the executive creative director at BBH, said: "Our stated ambition is to be bigger and broader than an ad agency and Ewan's going to be a major factor in the agency going beyond 30-second spots."
