DDB Chicago's 'whassup' spot for Budweiser continued its assault on the international advertising scene this year by scooping the Grand Prix Television award at the 38th International Advertising Festival of Ireland in Kinsale.
The spot, directed by Charles Stone III through C&C Storm Films, also won the USA National award and a gold in the alcoholic drink category.
DDB Chicago also took the Worldwinner Radio award for its 'bowling' ad for Bud Light, and the gold in the radio series category for its 'heroes', 'foam finger', 'foot-long hot dog' and 'pro-wrestling' spots.
The Worldwinner Television award went to Cliff Freeman for Fox Sports' 'turkey'. It was directed by Traktor through Partizan.
Headquarters, which won the Palme D'Or, also picked up the music craft award for three Amazon.com spots. The same campaign also won gold, silver and bronze in the telecommunication category.
Leagas Delaney performed well, winning the Great Britain National award and the gold in the financial services category for its 'masterbrand' spot for Barclays. It also won the editing craft award for its BBC ad 'curiosity', and a gold for 'city match'. The Adidas ad was directed by Peter Cattaneo through Academy.
Leagas Delaney's rival on the Adidas account, 180, won a silver for its 'Lomu' Adidas spot, directed by Frederik Bond through Harry Nash.
The craft award for cinematography went to Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO for its Guinness 'bet on black' spot. The ad also won a silver in the cinema category. Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy won the gold for its Breathe.com ad 'in/out', which was directed by Frederic Planeron through Academy.
Other UK award-winners included Leo Burnett, which scooped the gold in the food category with 'pizza', directed by Chris Dada through Academy.
The Marmite spot 'apartment', directed by Paul Goldman through 2AM Films, won BMP DDB silver.
Saatchi & Saatchi Wellington won two golds. The first in retail services for 'thirteen', its spot for Brand. The second was for Discovery.com's television series, directed by Traktor through Partizan.
The Belgian agency Van Walbeek Etcetera won silver for its 'thalys/high speed train' spots. McCann-Erickson Dublin won bronze on Smithwick's, HB Ice-Cream and GAA Sponsorship.
There were no Grand Prix awarded in the Radio, Cinema, TV Ireland or Radio Ireland categories. There were also no golds in several other categories.
