The Times said it had no plans to counter The Telegraph's price rise.

The Daily Telegraph joins The Independent and The Guardian with a £1 cover price.

The quality market has witnessed a number of price rises this year. In August, the Guardian increased its weekday cover price by 10p to £1, while the Saturday edition rose by 20p to £1.90.

The Financial Times increased its cover price to £2 in April. The Times went up to 90p in January.

Newspapers have looked to offset rises in cover prices by launching discount subscription offers and home delivery schemes.

The Times, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph offer discount subscription schemes.  The Independent and The Times offer home delivery services.

In September, The Times registered a circulation of 571,506, down 10.43% year on year. The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, recorded a circulation of 801,782, a fall of 5.71% on the year.
