The afternoon title, which currently circulates in Glasgow and Edinburgh, will now also go to press in Aberdeen and Dundee. Trinity Mirror, which publishes the Daily Record, said it was targeting an initial circulation of between 15,000 and 20,000 copies across the four Scottish cities for a 44-page free edition.
Each city title, which will be distributed between 5pm and 7pm on weekdays, will carry local news and sport relevant to its city, as well as appropriate content from the national paid-for Daily Record.
Mark Hollinshead, managing director of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, said: "The four free PM editions will ensure that the Daily Record series delivers the largest and most responsive audience to advertisers of any publication or media outlet in Scotland."
Bruce Waddell, editor of the Daily Record, said: "Free PM will not only target new readers but also heavily promote the next day's edition of the Daily Record."
In the national ABC figures for November 2006, the Daily Record fell by 2.8% to 408,293.
