Daily Mail continues Australian <BR>spending spree

LONDON - The Daily Mail & General Trust, already the biggest radio operator in Australia, has expanded its operation further down under with the acquisition of Brisbane station 4BH for an undisclosed sum.

It will become part of DMG Radio Australia, bringing the total number of stations it owns to 62.

DMG bought the station from the Australian Radio Network but it would not confirm how much it paid, saying only that it did not exceed £1.8m. It already has joint ownership, with ARN, of Brisbane's newest FM radio station 97.3FM, which launched in October last year.

Starting off as a regional radio player in 1996, DMG is growing its presence in cities across the country. In April 2001, it launched the first new FM station in Sydney since 1980. The launch has been a success, with Nova 96.9FM gaining a 7% audience share in its first six months of broadcasting.
