Cvent is among the world’s largest meetings and event management technology companies. It has 900 customers in the UK and 10,000 worldwide.
It bought Texas-based Seed Labs, which creates apps for consumer and social events, including festivals, concerts and sports events.
The US$4.2 million (£2.7 million) acquisition is the first in Cvent's 13-year history.
App development will be added to Cvent’s existing services, which include online event registration and management, web surveys and a free online supplier network with 200,000 venue and supplier profiles.
Reggie Aggarwal, founder and chief executive of Cvent, said: "Cvent’s recent completion of a $136 million private equity round—one of the largest software funding rounds in recent US history—puts us in a unique position to quickly scale our product offerings and expand into new markets.
"We selected Seed Labs after reviewing at least 20 solutions and hearing their name continuously come up in conversations with our clients and prospects."
Todd Rogers, chief executive of Seed Labs, said: "Our new relationship with Cvent combines our skills in mobile apps for consumer events together with the best-known online event management company in the industry. Clients will now have a complete spectrum of coordinated services under one roof to increase the appeal, excitement and value of their events."
