Customer sector posts strong growth

The UK customer publishing sector experienced impressive growth in the first six months of 2007, with 120 magazine launches and pitches, according to the Association of Publishing Agencies.

The APA, which said that growth of the medium is second only to online, said that launches over the period spanned a variety of sectors, including B2B, automotive, retail, hotels and airlines.

Notable examples included contract publisher Brooklands' Flybe Uncovered magazine, which has a distribution of 10.5 million among airline passengers and boasts one of the sector's largest circulations.

In terms of sectors, the financial industry expanded circulation of the customer sector year on year by 17.6 million magazines, followed by the airline and retail sectors, which each increased the number of customer magazines by 12 million copies.

Existing titles also contributed strong growth to the sector, increasing their combined circulations by 11 million copies, compared with the first six months of 2006.
